Artisan Bowl
Bold color, dramatic movement, and original design come together in this striking handcrafted ceramic bowl by Long Island artist Jan Barrett.
This exceptional one-of-a-kind piece immediately captures the eye with its vibrant combination of fiery orange, brilliant red, deep blue, black, and crisp white accents. The colors flow around the bowl in sweeping, energetic forms, creating a sense of movement that makes the design appear different from every angle.
At the center, a distinctive black-and-white hand-decorated geometric pattern provides a dramatic focal point. Fine white lines and repeating shapes contrast beautifully against the black background, while the surrounding layers of blue, red, and orange draw the eye inward.
Sweeping black accents extend across the surface and around the rim, giving the bowl a bold, contemporary character. The slightly irregular shape and flowing edge further emphasize that this piece was created by hand rather than manufactured by machine.
Jan's use of intense color and free-flowing forms gives this bowl the feeling of an abstract painting brought to life in clay. It is equally at home displayed as a centerpiece or appreciated simply as an original piece of ceramic artwork.
Every aspect of this creation—from forming the clay and developing the design to glazing and kiln firing—reflects the individual hand of the artist. Natural variations in form, color, glaze, and texture are part of its character and ensure that there will never be another piece exactly like it.
